Press Any Key to Win

Introducing the SteelSeries Apex, a gaming keyboard designed to enable users to react quickly, move strategically, and customize its performance for every game. Beyond just choosing from 16.8 Million colors, the Apex features SteelSeries ActiveZone lighting, a visual support tool allowing the user to independently customize each of its 5 zones and in multiple macro layers.

Faster Return to WASD
Small bumps on the W-key provides a faster return to WASD. When you quickly have to type a message or execute a command, we want to make sure that you find your way back to WASD as quickly as possible without having to look.

We added two arrow keys for a bit of extra directional convenience.

Superior Design
Apex is made up of sleek lines and low-profile keys that bring together beautiful form and optimized function.

Raised Macro Keys
The macro keys above the F-keys feature a raised design that allow you to locate them without looking and execute devastatingly fast key combinations. Simply swipe your finger down from the macro key onto the F-key for quick key combinations.

88 More Ways to Win
The Apex features 22 independent macros keys that are each capable of up to 4 layers. This equates to 88 potential macros. Of course, much of the keyboard is also programmable making for an enormous total of 504 programmable keys.

Layer Select Buttons
Switch between macro layers quickly and easily thanks to 4 quick-access keys on the upper left corner that allow you to select your desired macro layer.

Light `em up
Featuring 16.8 million color illumination in 5 independent zones and 8 levels of intensity that you can configure differently for each of your macro layer, for endless customization.

ActiveZone Lighting
The Apex features 5 independent color zones that are each capable of 16.8 million colors. These can be customized to create a unique color scheme for each of your macro layers. This allows you to quickly determine which macro layer you have enabled and help you find groups of your macros according to their color. Imagine a yellow theme for harvest macros, blue theme for defend macros, red for attack macros and more. The possibilities are limitless.

Disable Windows Key
Simply hold down the SteelSeries key and tap the Windows key to disable it. This simple key combination will disable and enable the windows key without the need for software or complicated menus.

The SteelSeries Key
The special SteelSeries key on the right hand side of the key lard allows you to access special functions like disabling the Windows key.
With the Apex, we left the windows key on the left side of the keyboard for commands and shortcuts that are frequently used when not gaming.

The SteelSeries Apex and Apex [RAW] gaming keyboards support anti-ghosting for 20 keys located in the most-used gaming areas on the keyboard. Out of these 20 capable keys, users can press up to 6 of them simultaneously, allowing those key presses to register and without locking the keyboard.

There's no need to install software of any kind in order to use the Apex. Without software many features will work including disabling of the windows key and more. However, for the full experience and for the gamers who want really advanced customization options, the Apex is supported by SteelSeries Engine technology.

Swappable Feet
Swappable rubber feet allow you to find the most comfortable gaming angle for those long gaming sessions.

Independent Media Keys
Independent media and volume keys provide instant access to media control and more.

5* Apex Keyboard
Reviewed by Cillian Noquet-Page on 25/10/2013
This keyboard by Steelseries is a solid build and has many many features, such as the macro keys. The colors on the keyboard are amazing but some of the colors don't work so well with the board such as Orange,Grey and Purple (But dark blue works great). The only other problem with the keyboard is that you need to go to the SteelSeries website to download the correct drivers and the SteelSeries engine to get the keyboard to work correctly. But once you have this all setup the keyboard is AMAZING you can do everything with it, they keys feel nice it has a big spacebar which i find really nice to rest on and just the overall feel of the product is really really good!
5* Great Product, barely any problems.

I love this keyboard, even though it isn't mechanical its still fantastic to use.
But with a great keyboard comes flaws.

Keyboard firmware won't update unless plugged into a USB3 port on your computer.
The middle lighting zone colour seems to be off when using orange compared to the other zones.

These are minor flaws and easy enough to overcome. other than that. awesome keyboard. Best £75 I have ever spent on a peripheral.
2* Nice keyboard let down by AWFUL software

If this review was only about hardware it would get a 5. However the SteelSeries Engine driver/software knocks it all the way down to a 2 (at best). It really is that bad. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate, it's on an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard, there's a trackball, Seagate external HDD and a Synology NAS attached. Clean install done at Christmas.

The software (which is integral to the keyboard package - you need it to control the lights, customise the keys, etc.) wouldn't recognise the keyboard was even connected. A trip to SteelSeries's FAQs gave some hints, but it still took a couple more hours (including plugging the keyboard into 6 different pairs of USB ports) before it finally worked. It took me 3 hours to get the keyboard working, and several more hours since then getting it working again. The software seems to reset so the drivers need reinstalling every time the machine is rebooted. The fact they need FAQs about the problem suggests it's not uncommon.
