5* Very good

I bought this hard drive from BT after receiving a DOA drive from Amazon, I was so happy with my past purchases from BT i believed that this order should be perfectly fine. It arrived very quick and worked out of the box! Surprisingly it is even cheaper than buying from Amazon!!! Recommend to all my friends
5* Read first about 3Tb
Reviewed by George on 28/10/2012
I know that I will sound very silly to everybody who knows about computers, but this comment is for those who know very little. 3Tb drives need a different protocol for formatting. If you follow the defaults when you install the 3Tb, you end up with 2Tb drive and some large unassigned space. Perhaps you can re-format, but in my case this was too late. Here is the story: "The drive has to be reformatted as a GPT-formatted drive instead of an MBR-formatted drive. The old standard MBR partition tables can't describe a drive of over about 2.13 TiB. You can convert only empty, unpartitioned disks (raw drives or empty MBR drives) to the GPT format."
5* Fast and quiet

Excellent drive. Had to configure as GPT to ensure that all 3TB accessible, but easy to do in Windows 7. Have hit it hard over recent weeks loading tons of videos onto it. So far faultless. It does spin down if not in use, but not really a problem.
3* Better twit then chirp! ;(
Reviewed by Rafal on 10/02/2013
For those that are not aware of ongoing, long-time dragging "chirping" issue of Shee..gate disc. I'm one of those victims myself and only realised once I got them. LOL 2 devices. Both singing well. But that wasn't the purpose of having 2x3TB storage :(. FYI: The chirping sound is caused by disc heads being parked on random. I guess I could stand the sound at the end of the day but major let down is at some stage you will have the disc parked in a middle of r/w transaction and the only way to bring it up is to power cycle the disc. Unfortunately SG's efforts to eliminate this problem have been failure so far including most recent firmware CC4H. Obviously any requests towards SG online end up advising firmware upgrade. Don't be fooled. So If you're not big fan of a soprano coming out from within your machine you better have a piece of Caviar. Ta, ta. R.
3* bit hard to install win 7 and slow

for a new pc build using a amd 8350fx asrock 990fx extreme 3 board .getting the full 3tera was a nightmare but after finding few things off the net i got the had drive installed in gpt format .i found the hard drive very slow .so i tryed my 250gb sata drive and its very fast .cant understand why the drive slowed my win 7 pro 64bit right down .next time on i use a 2 tera to be safer
2* Repeat failures
Reviewed by Anonymous on 10/10/2015
I have had 2 of these fail - one inside the 2 year warranty and the other after 26 months. Have replaced with same drives on both occassions as I use in a NAS Server with a RAID back up.
1* Two failed, avoid these
Reviewed by Jon on 27/12/2015
I bought two of these a couple of years back to use in a mirrored configuration. Both failed, one within a year and the second within two years, just now at time of review. Fortunately I was able to replace the first immediately to restore the mirror and also kept other backups... I don't recommend these.
