5* Comment on first review
Reviewed by Colin on 12/04/2013
Just a comment on the first review really - There is an update firmware version 6.0.5 about to be releases that fixes the problem with files over 1gb. I saw the info on the Netgear site today.
5* Nice Product, great bundle deal
Reviewed by Mike F on 05/01/2014
I purchased one of these with a bundled deal, effectively you got a 1Tb WD Red hard disk for free. Great Value I have sited it under my TV, and have it connected to my network via a 500Mbs Homeplug, works well although obviously not as quick as connecting a network cable directly to it and making use of the Gigabyte network connection. The software allows you access through the internet and has been useful. Lots of useful add ons although I must admit to not really using them. Overall very satisfied although without the bundle deal i.e. £104 (including 1Tb WD red Hard drive) I'm not sure I would have purchased.
4* no printer support
Reviewed by Ken on 29/09/2013
This Nas came bundled with the green 1TB disk, which is not a recommended drive should be the red. other than that it seems to work very well but the documentation is hard work. Only one gripe, I assumed it would act as a print server, but this is not supported in the os6 firmware.
4* Grent potential, but still a little immature
Reviewed by PeterK on 19/11/2013
I was going to write a proper review here, but BT won't let me - there aren't enough characters allowed. Come on BT, this isn't Twitter! Anyway, cutting things short, these new ARM boxes read and write three times faster than the old Sparc-based ReadyNAS, but the new OS has an unfinished feel about it, even at Version 6.1.4. Some original features don't work any more, like support of USB-attached printers and UPS (which now seems to be network-only.) Of course, Netgear may add these facilities eventually, and they have a good history of supporting old ReadyNAS kit, but you do have to buy what you can get now. The new snapshotting file system is brilliant, though, as is the ability to switch from X-Raid to FlexRaid on the fly. The hardware is still as solid as ever and the new tool-free disk trays are very handy. At this price the RN102 is something of a bargain, so as long as you are happy to go with firmware that is basically functional, but a little bit beta, it's a good buy.
1* Doesn't work as a media server; poor backup firmware
Reviewed by John McClenahan on 03/11/2013
This box doesn't do well or at all the things I wanted it for:

1. Replacement backup device for an older NAS

2. Media Server on my home network with access from the Internet.

You can only back up (from the device's interface) existing shares on the computer you want to back up from.

Specify the host computer by IP number, not by name or by browsing the network and shares.

[Browse] button to select the share doesn't work.

Menu selections are non-intuitive, and need you first to select remote:Windows/NAS (Timestamp) or remote:Windows (Archive bit), then type in the share name WITHOUT any preceding / (guess how I know that!)

Firmware comes with links to install a range of media sharing/serving software. None of it works usably even if you succeed in installing it. No image or album thumbnails AT ALL in TVmobili. No album thumbnails in Plex Media Server, and it's incredibly slow.

Spent hours with Tech Support - nothing would work usably for me.
