Corsair Obsidian Series 550D quiet mid-tower case: The strong, silent type.

The Obsidian Series™ 550D has been carefully engineered for noise reduction. The front and side panels are insulated with sound dampening material, and the hard drive trays and fans have soft silicon mounts to absorb vibration. The top and side panel vents are covered for noise reduction if you're not using them to install your own fans, and even the intakes are angled to reduce air noise.

The rigid, stamped steel and brushed aluminium case holds some remarkable technology that makes it easy to build great systems. There's built-in USB 3.0 support, and the drive trays work with 2.5" SSDs. The removable hard drive bays allow customization for extra-long graphics cards and maximizing airflow. And, the easy-access side panels come off at the touch of a button for easy upgrades or simply admiring your work.

5* Solid reliable affair
Reviewed by Patrick McGarvey on 17/07/2013
To start from the beginning: impressive case, attractive and well organised inside. Installation of components couldn't be easier-hard drive bays beautifully easy to use with no screws, CD drive slots in nicely (again screwless). As someone self building one would hope you know what you're doing yet still the total lack of instructions was probably a bit of a bad move. Integrated 2.5" hard drive support? I would like to know how without sitting down with the several bags of little bolts and screws and trying to attach them to the hard drive bays...

That aside the case is wonderful in use and the dust filters work a dream. Not quite as deadly silent as implied, but you can see the effort has been made and if you can put out the extra pennies to buy silent components you can expect near silence.

Overall-very good, strong case with secure and simple to use components and features. Would like to see it for a few pennies less and a little more help-but what is playing around for?
