5* Great buy

I really like the simplicity of the home hub 4 and it now behaves better with powerline wireless extenders too. So a great product from BT in version 4 (well it did take apple 4 versions to get the iphone right as well )
4* Home hub 4

Looks like great buy for non techies. If you want bells and whistles (99% of people don't), then spend a lot more money on a specialist router.
3* Ideal for the average, home user. Not for home office.
Reviewed by Nikos on 02/01/2014
BT's home hub 4 is very simple to set up and use. Its dual band (2.4GHz, 5GHz)wireless capability means that you can easily overcome wireless performance and connection stability issues, which are most often due to interference.

In comparison to the Home Hub 3, besides the 5GHz band, it comes with a faster CPU, which allows for a more responsive management user interface. Also, its external hard disk sharing (NAS) capability now supports internationalized file names and folder names.

The firewall and port forwarding functions appear to be problematic. I had to completely deactivate the firewall function for port forwarding to port 80 (Web) to work and I did not manage to make my Synology NAS work well with BT's Home Hub 4. I eventually replaced the Home Hub with a DrayTek Vigor 2860n Plus.

Overall, I think this is a great solution for the average user. It's simple to configure and use. If you plan to use advanced NAS or home server services, go for another modem/router.
3* bt hub4

I upgraded from hub 3 to hub 4, no difference at all wasted my money.
and now they expect us yo buy hub 5 after me buying hub 4 two months ago, what a rip off.
they could have told us about hub 5 before we wasted our money on hub 4.
3* Poor wireless
Reviewed by Martin Ratcliffe on 14/10/2013
Got this when I upgraded to infinity, from hub2. The setup per devise long winded; looks good; but the wireless range much worse than my old hub, in fact can get bt wifi in parts of my house and not my hub4. Looks like now need a repeater to reach areas I often need it.
3* Great for the basics, possible problems with Macs
Reviewed by Anonymous on 06/06/2013
This is a nice looking hub which plugs in and connects very easily. The interface is very nice and straightforward - it does the basics extremely well.

I have problems with this accessing a NAS device from my MAC - it seems to block communications between my Mac and the device is not accessible :(

Also it's a bit disappointing that three of the WAN sockets are 100Mbps rather than 1Gbps. Just having one 1Gbps socket is a waste of time - presumably you want to connect one device to another using your Gb network.

As another review states - great for the basics, not for advanced; and I'd recommend caution with Macs if you have external network devices to connect to.
2* More money for less service

I was happy with HH2 but upgrade to HH4 to get BT Sport. What a mistake. The signal is so weak I cannot get internet upstairs and have spent hours with BT helpers from India trying to pin down the problem. No joy. My TV reception is worse too. Do not buy.
2* Not really that good
Reviewed by Anonymous on 29/05/2013
5Ghz is fine, although the range is pretty poor (even in terraced house with plasterboard walls!) nice to see 40Mhz channel support. Throughput of 5Ghz was good (enough) for mobile phone / tablet use on BT Infinity. I needed to actually switch 40Mhz channel off to improve the throughput (my handset doesn't do 40Mhz). 2.4Ghz range is no better than Home Hub 3, maybe even worse. 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz can be independently configured, so is easy to tell. GUI is about as simple as normal, missing many advanced features. The smartsetup thing is interesting idea, but annoying, and easily disabled. All in all, bit of a dead duck, 2/5. Looking forward to the next hub. Why not reserve these cheaper hubs as throw aways for new customers and build us an advanced feature & tech rich superhub for the loyal customers who then might actually pay for it.
1* BT Home Hub 4
Reviewed by martin on 08/09/2013
Sadly this is a piece of junk! I can barely get a signal in the adjoining room, cannot stream video less than 5 metres away, and it is incapable of streaming on the BT Sport App at less than metre away! Customer service has been appalling, I have spoken to so many different people at BT and wasted so much of my time on this cheap rubbish router, don't buy it!
1* Returned within a day - Home Hub 3 is better
Reviewed by Dave Martin on 22/07/2013
I bought this as an upgrade already being a BT Infinity customer. It arrived and I plugged it...
Immediately shortcomings include:
- The BT automatic set-up is implemented as a DNS intercept taking you to pages on the hub itself rather than the page you had originally requested. Unless you go through all three pages (which are very, very slow at loading), it will ask you each and every time you fire up your browser. This happens not only the first time you use the new hub, but on each device you connect.
- The performance is very poor. My HH3 gave me a download of 30 mbit/s. TheHH4 dropped this to less than 1 Mbit/s. I know that a hub needs to settle down, but it was never going to give reasonable performance.
- I had a problem setting up the SSID and associated password. Each time I set up the hub reverted back to the delivered setting after 30 mins or so.
Now returned to BT for a full refund & I have reverted back to my HH3, which is providing good performance & stability.
