Asus sound cards really are amazing, and this one is no exception. Sound is great. Not quiet as good as the ST or STX, but still very good indeed. Finishing and presentation are absolutely superb. Despite what the previous reviewer said, I have had no trouble at all with the cards or drivers. They are rock solid.
If you are considering this card for headphones; don't! Get the ST or STX instead. This card will happily drive headphones, but the ST and STX have a wider range of selectable output powers for different headphones. The card also sounds a little brighter and lighter than the ST and STX, which in my opinion is not as good for headphones.
Absolutely fantastic sound, and of the five PC's I have used these cards in, not one problem yet.
One word of advice is that if you intend to use headphones, I would get the ST or STX because of the greater number of headphone impedance matchings.
The quality of build and packaging leaves Creative for dead, frankly.
This sound card replaced my old Audigy ZS 2 so as you can imagine it was a huge upgrade. DVD's MP3's Blu Ray all sound amazing.
I would have given it 5 out of 5 buyt I had issues installing the drivers. First it stalled on install, then it blue screened but as they say 3rd time lucky it worked.
It looks very stylish full of lights and the circle is also lighted. I do not understand these designs sometimes because when they are in the PC they always face down!?!?!?!
But if you are upgrading for home entertainment this is a no brainer!
You may have to explain to your neighbours why the walls are now shacking though!!! TURN IT UP TO 11
This card makes a beautiful sound, combined with the 5.1 speaker system I bought at the same time ... sometimes. Unfortunately I've had repeated problems with it either making a horrible noise or none at all. I've had the card about 6 weeks, and I reckon a third of that time I've been struggling to get it to work. I've downloaded updated drivers and checked all the settings etc. I've probably uninstalled and reinstalled it 10 times. Because I've spent a lot of time just trying to get it to work I haven't really been able to explore its features or the software that comes with it. It's been difficult for me to figure out why, and support from ASUS has been limited. Unfortunately from postings on their customer forum that seems to be a common experience. I don't know whether there is a software or hardware problem, but I really want something to work out of the box and stay that way.
