New Acer Gemstone range

Manufacturer ACER have been manufacturing PC's and peripherals for over 30 years, and were ranked in the top 4 "branded" PC manufacturers last year, they're probably best known for their range of Acer Aspire quality notebook PC's - featuring the formula-1 inspired FERRARI range launched in 2006.

Billed as the "Gem of your Digital Life" ... Acer's latest offering again comes from the Acer Aspire stable. It's a range of notebooks with a revolutionary eye catching design. The "Acer Aspire Gemstone" has just hit the UK market, and is sure to turn a few heads - looking somewhat different than the regular "bland" laptop design we're used to.

SHIMMERING HOLOGRAPHIC PROJECTION

The gemstone notebooks reflect the "precious gem" theme in their overall styling, having rounded "opalesque" curves, rather than the more common square edges found in most other laptops. This theme continues with a stylish holographic 3D finish for the gloss black case, which is very pleasing to the eye and comfortable to the touch. It has the ACER logo feature as a hologram on the front appearing to "float" above the surface like a shimmering holographic projection.

ENHANCES YOUR MULTIMEDIA EXPERIENCE

When you open the device, you're immediately struck by the stylish light pearl grey shade of the keyboard. The designers have worked hard to ensure that the keys stand out and the characters are clearly visible [black on white], highlighting the blue elements. Whilst having a regular layout, the keyboard also has a couple of extras. The first being the "Neon Mediaflow" of the Gemstone ... which captures and enhances your multimedia experience by guiding you to the seven touch sensitive dedicated media keys to the right hand side of the keyboard. The second dedicated key is the translucent, sapphire blue, "empowering key" allowing you to access a special control panel of utilities offering a set of smart applications, such as security features, performance management, and backup amongst others.

DOLBY® SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS

The Acer Aspire Gemstone aims to "maximise enjoyment of digital entertainment" and, as such, it comes equipped with a set of integrated Dolby® certified surround "Music Note" speakers promising true cinema like sound. They are extremely clear and are sure to enhance your experience whether it be listening to your favourite music, playing games, or watching TV. And when it comes to watching movies, not only does the surround sound belt out crystal clear sound, but the picture is superb quality, thanks to the CrystalBrite™ Display, yet another built in technology which will assure you you've made the right choice with your purchase.

Models in the Range

The Gemstone range boasts 7 notebooks, and prices start at just under £320 including VAT, with the AS5315 base model featuring an Intel Celeron®M 530 Processor, which is fast enough for most home computing needs. As you'd expect, it includes the latest Microsoft operating system - Microsoft® Windows Vista Home Basic, as standard, and with 1Gb of RAM - you won't be "waiting around" for your photo's and documents to load up. The screen is a respectable 15.4" giving a perfect quality sharp, crystal clear picture with the Acer CrystalBrite™ display. What's more you'll also be able to view DVD movies using the built in DVD RW Drive, plus you'll be able to backup the data and digital photo's as the Gemstone's DVDRW has DVD and CD writing capability. Other models with the Intel Celeron® chip include a 120Gb Hard Drive variant, with Vista Home Premium.

The remaining 4 models in the range have Intel® Core2Duo Processors which are even faster for more demanding multimedia applications, and start at just under £500 inc VAT with the AS4920 model.

At the top of the range, the Gemstone AS7720G includes a huge 17" Acer CrystalBrite™ wide screen - perfect for watching blockbuster movies, browsing the web or viewing digital photos. It's got the latest HD DVD-ROM Drive included too, so you'll get the best quality "high definition" picture available if you play High Def films. PLUS, it's equipped with the latest cutting edge graphics card - the NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS, so it can easily handle the most demanding PC games and multimedia rich applications with ease.

As with all the models in the range, the sound quality is superb and distinctive thanks to the Dolby™ certified stereo speaker system. As for storage ... you get a huge 320Gb hard drive with the AS7220G - easily large enough for all your music, photo's and documents.
